Tasty Tuesday

I am going to try and share a dining experience every Tuesday. We will see how well I do with keeping this going... haha!

This week I am sharing an experience at our local E-Mart. For those of you who are not with us here in Korea, E-mart is a lot like Target... just really Korean-ized. I will have to do a whole post on E-Mart later. Anyways... on to the food.

I ordered the Ramen at their food court and this is what I got...
Ok... Lets start with the round pot... that is the actual ramen. It was FANTASTIC!!! It has green onions and egg cooked in to it along with some other green veggies and of course the ramen noodles and a broth that has a little spice to it. The round dish at the top with the three yellow circles are a type of pickled raddish that the Koreas call Danmuji. I'm a huge fan of this stuff. I eat it at every Korean restaurant that we go to that serves it. The next round dish at the top is Kimchi... I HATE this stuff! (Unless it is the cucumber variety) This one is a raddish based kind, unlike most of the kimchi that is made of cabbage and it is SPICY! Below the two round dishes is a "lunchbox" with rice, a fried egg, dried seaweed and slices of grilled SPAM (and there is some cabbage kimchi in the right top corner of the box). Yes, I did say SPAM. I like the seaweed and rice and egg all mixed up, but I could do without the SPAM.

There you have it, a typical lunch in Korea, one of my favorites, actually!

E-Mart

In Korea there is no such thing as Walmart or Target. Instead we have Home Plus and E-Mart. They are very similar to the department stores back in the states, but still very different. We have visited both, but I have to say my favorite is E-Mart. We go a few times a month and its always fun to find new things there. Here's some pictures of the front of the store & the guys who direct your vehicle:

Inside there is a McDonalds, which is part of a nice food court. There's also some Korean places to eat, Baskin Robbins, a coffee place and a Chinese place. Here are some pics of the family eating in the food court a week ago:

And here is a pic of the McDonalds arches and the Korean equivalent of the word McDonalds:

Brad noticed that some of the items they had for sale were 'gramatically' incorrect. I took a few pictures so you all could see the funny things we run into here:

I think E-Mart is great but it doesn't hold a candle to Walmart and Target. Oh how I miss Super Walmart!

Ceia

Saturday night we went to Ceia. It is a Brazillian Steakhouse and they give you all you can eat Steak, called churrasco. Its one of our favorites! You start off with salad, rice, beans, potato salad and pickled onions cucumbers and olives. Then they start bringing out the meat! They have chicken (which I don't usually get), about 6 cuts of steak and brown sugar covered pineapple. Everything is cooked on spits in an open fire. My favorite is the strip steak that they bring out covered in butter. Its like dessert made out of steak! Heavenly!!!! Here are a few pictures:

La Casa de Mexicano

We ate at our favorite Mexican restaurant here in Korea last night, La Casa de Mexicano. They have awesome fajitas. We pretty much always order the same thing... Al Anbre. It has chicken, bacon, bell peppers, onions, rice beans and melted cheese on a burning hot skillet. They bring out freshly made tortillas too. Oh, and you get chips, pico de gallo, jalapenos and two different garlic sauces (one hot and one mild) when you first sit down. Its weird not having salsa, but it works and tasts good nonetheless. Brad and I are both big fans of this place. The kids usually get a cheese quesadilla and some rice. With all 4 of us eating it usually costs about 33,000 Won, not too bad for some really yummy food.
